Hanukah Hoedown Throwdown

Celebrate both Christmas and Hanukah this year at the Green Dragon. We’ll be having a Hanukah Hoedown Throwdown with Shmaltz Brewing pitting 5 of their rare Hanukah beers against 5 rare Christmas beers by Lompoc Brewing.

Join us at 5:00 PM on Saturday, December 17th to meet the Lompoc brewers Bryan Keilty, Dave Fleming, Irena Bierzynski and Zach Beckwith as well as Shmaltz’s Zak Davis as they talk about their unique brews. Try a pint or have one of our preset flights. Vote for your favorite and we’ll select a winner to present the Hanukah vs. Christmas trophy. Afterwards we’ll raffle off great prizes! To get even more into the competitive spirit, there will also be an Extreme Dreidel Tournament that runs throughout the day. Bring your best game and celebrate the holidays with us.

Hop School with Portland U-Brew's Single Hop Series

SAT. DEC. 17th, 6-10pm: If you haven’t heard of Jason Webb & Aaron Gillham’s SE Milwaukee brainchild, then listen up, ‘cause it’s changing the way Portland’s craft beer lovers are getting hands-on brewing experience. U-Brew & Pub has a fully stocked and ready to rock brew-house and homebrew supply store that allows anyone from the first-timer to the journeyman to brew ANY style. If that’s not enough, the boys have their own U-Brew brews on tap in the tasting room, rounding out this trifecta of brewing independence.

One such U-Brew project has been their single-hop series, in which they brewed the same session-able base beer with eight different hops. On this night, we’ll have all eight on tap between Saraveza and the Bad Habit room for a rare and fun opportunity to experience what different hop varietals really bring to the palatable table. There’ll be samples of each hop to smell, tasting sheets with information on each one and space for your notes. So join us Saturday night for what’s sure to be a fun and educational look at the “spice” in the beers we all know and love!

Salem Santacon

On Dec. 17th, 2011 @ 7:30 Gilgamesh will be hosting Santacon at their Winter Ale House in the Reed Opera House (#106). Santacon is a non-denominational, non-commercial, non-political and non-sensical Santa Claus convention that occurs once a year for absolutely no reason. The goal is to have a good time in the name of Santa. Patrons will be encouraged to come adorned as Santa and bring a toy for Toys for Tots. If they do they will be awarded half price draft beers. Salem Santacon is all ages.
