It was great to chat with Pratt Rather of Good Life Brewing in Bend. You can learn more about this up and coming brewery that is actually just making it into the Portland area this week on their website.
We also dove back into a virtual heap o’hops with Homebrew Chef Sean Paxton with even more wonderful ideas for celebrating the hop harvest by infusing hops into your food! (Psst! He’s got some of those great ideas on his website.)
And our Beer of the Week was the Widmer Falconer IPA, which we heard all about from its creator, brewer extraordinaire, Jacob Leonard!
It’s all right here for your listening pleasure!

Dogfish Head’s Big Dog will be fishin’ around in Portland next week. Yep, that’s right. Sam Calagione is going to be here, hosting a beer and wine pairing dinner at Higgins Restaurant on Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
Chef Greg Higgins told me that Sam will be presenting the beers and representatives from Alexandria Nicole Winery, voted “Washington Winery of the Year 2011” will be presenting the wines that will go with each course. Cost is $65 per person, gratuity not included (tables of 6 or more will get an automatic 18 percent gratuity). Higgins also told me that Sam (nobody ever calls him “Calagione”) has been working “very closely” with him and has even been sending him grain and other ingredients to work with for this event.

I love the idea that the Sunday Parkways event takes you right to the Closing Block Party at Bazi. You can walk, skip, rollerblade or ride your bike around the Parkways route, ending up at the Block Party for great Oregon-brewed beers and taste all five of the beer-ice creams that Salt & Straw made exclusively for PDX Beer Week — and hit the Hawthorne Street Fair all at the same time! How much more Portland can you get?

We Northwest beer lovers are a hearty breed. Just look at what we do in Portland in December: We gather around outside in Pioneer Square under clear-topped tents (so we can see the pretty tree lights) and stand in excruciatingly long lines for precious samples of seasonal beers at the Holiday Ale Festival. It’s wet. It’s cold. And we don’t care.
So it’s fitting that PDX Beer Week comes right on the heels of Oregon Craft Beer Month. Why not? It’s not like there’s not a lot to celebrate!
In reality, the timing was chosen because the organizers (full disclosure: I am one of the organizers) had been planning a Portland Beer Week for a while. But when the Bloggers Conference 2011 was slated for Aug. 19-21, we figured that was the perfect time to make our plans a reality. After all, what better way to showcase Portland’s amazing and unique craft beer community than to a ready audience of beer writers from across the country!
And what a week it will be. It kicks off on Friday, Aug. 19 at the Horse Brass Pub with a special beer brewed by the Widmer Brothers just for the week, and each day offers numerous ways to celebrate. The closing ceremonies will be happening during the always-fun and family friendly Hawthorne Street Fair on Aug. 28 with a beer garden at the new and awesome Bazi Bierbrasserie (with all Oregon-brewed Belgian-style beers pouring).
You can get details and updates here.
So, get the milk thistle out, drink a lot of water and keep rollin’! Because it’s going to be a fun ride!

Oregon Craft Beer Month culminates in the Oregon Brewers Festival — this year in its 24th year! Don’t Miss: The Buzz Tent, where all the special and rare beers are poured (and they change within a few hours, so check back!)
There are a ton of cool events going on in conjunction with the OBF, too. Check the calendar on this site, but don’t forget to check out the Fringe Fest at Belmont Station on Saturday. I am going to be there 3-5 signing books! Come by to meet the brewers and say hi!
Also, on Thursday, July 28, Groupon is celebrating the OBF with great beery deals all over Portland. From brewpubs to beer bars, restaurants to tap houses, good deals abound! Don’t forget to check out Groupon Portland for all the great discounts!

It’s Oregon Craft Beer Month!
Oregon Brewers Guild director Brian Butenschoen and president Ben Love of Hopworks Urban Brewery gave us the 411 on all the haps. You can get details on this website’s calendar or check the official Oregon Craft Beer Month website for all the events!
We also talked with Jesse Cornett of The Guild Public House about the upcoming Cans Fest — celebrating canned craft beer! And we visited with Matt Killikelly of Venti’s in Salem, who has news of a new location that’s even more beer friendly! Can’t wait to check that out in our state capital!
Here’s the show in its entirety.

Kerry Finsand, aka BeerGyver, of Taplister.com had some great beer and technology news for the month:
Special thanks to Brady Whalen of the Craft Beer Blog for this Heineken bottle opener that invites all your Facebook friends over when you pop open a cold one! Here’s the full story.
BeerGyver also brought us news about phone apps — and a New Orleans launch — from our friends over at Drink Decks.
We also talked with Dave Marliave of Flat Tail Brewing, who has some news about their 1-year anniversary brew and festivities. It’s coming up soon!
And the inimitable Shaun O’Sullivan of 21st Amendment shares the back story on our Beer of the Week: their GABF 2010 Silver-medal-winning Hop Crisis Imperial IPA!
Oh, and you can listen to the whole thing right here.

What better way to make Dad happy than with beer on Father’s Day? We spoke with Homebrew Chef Sean Paxton who gave us some great ideas for making a deeee-lish grilled or barbecued dinner for Dad. You can find his tasty recipes here.
And Mindy Humphrey was on the show to talk about her cool beer gear — including a wallet made out of a 6-pack holder — on her etsy website. You can find that one here.
Last but certainly not least, you can get Dad a silly pint (or in this case a SiliPint) — a completely unbreakable pint glass that’s great for enjoying beer outside or anywhere glass is not a good idea!
You can catch the whole show, including a great chat with Firestone Walker’s Matt Brynildson and our Beer of the Week, Parabola Imperial Stout, right here.
