Vote for Your Favorite OBF Haiku!
The contest has ended! Thanks for playin’!
Here’s proof that Beer O’Clock listeners are creative! 
About 60 Oregon Brewers Festival Haiku (thanks, Laurie, for pointing out that “haiku,” not “haikus” is the plural of haiku) were submitted for a chance to win one of two $50 packages for two to the OBF — which includes two mugs, 40 tokens and an official program!
It was not an easy task, narrowing all the wonderful submissions down to 10 finalists. A crack team spent a good couple of hours over breakfast making the selections.
Now, it’s up to you, the Beer O’Clock public, to read the haiku that have reached this pinnacle, and vote for your favorite. The top two vote-getters will each win one coveted OBF package, a $50 value. Not bad for jotting down three little lines of prose!
The haiku are numbered here, and if you look to the bottom right of the BeerGoddess.com homepage, you will find a survey with a series of numbers that correspond to the haiku. Remember the number of the haiku you like best and then vote for that number in the survey.
It’s that easy!
Voting ends at 7 a.m. PDT, Wednesday, July 21. Winners will be alerted by e-mail and will be given instructions on how to collect their winnings at the OBF!

Deschutes Goes On Record, Backs Home Brewers
This just in from Marie F. Melsheimer, with Deschutes’ pubic relations firm, Campbell Consulting: 
Hi Friends – You may have heard rumblings of this Oregon homebrewing story lately, and I wanted to provide you with some information straight from Deschutes Brewery! Let me know if you have any questions.
Deschutes Brewery has been an avid supporter of homebrewers for years, and would never do anything to jeopardize their rights. In fact, we were planning an event to celebrate homebrewing during which our brewers would brew on a home system at our pub and homebrewers would bring their beer to our pub to be discussed, tasted and critiqued. We contacted the OLCC to ensure we were not violating any regulations. Now it seems that the OLCC has resurrected a dormant law regarding homebrewers, much to the dismay of the brewing community, including Deschutes Brewery. We have always felt that passion for craft beer starts at home and we support homebrewers all across the United States. We are always happy to fulfill homebrewer requests for clone recipes, hops and raffle items for homebrew competitions. We also sponsor the Porter category at the American Homebrewers Association’s National Homebrew Competition each year.
Gary Fish, president and founder of Deschutes Brewery, said:
“The real story is that Deschutes Brewery contacted the OLCC to ensure that a homebrewers forum we were planning during American Craft Beer Week was legal. Given the rules we are bound to as licensee of the OLCC and as a responsible member of the brewing community, we always want to make sure that we understand the intricacies of the OLCC’s regulations. After a three-minute conversation with an OLCC representative, we were told that the agency would call us back with further information. This never happened, and the planned event was dropped as a result.
“The bottom line is that we were attempting to create an event celebrating homebrewing, and our roots in this culture. We were never contacted by any media outlets to clarify this story and the reasons for our inquiry. We hope that these OLCC laws will change in the near future, as recent coverage has suggested, and that homebrewers can continue to share their creations with the world.”
Deschutes Brewery strongly believes in the value and importance of homebrewing, and will continue to support homebrewers whole-heartedly in the future.

Win a $50 Package to the Oregon Brewers Festival
How about a $50 package for two to the Oregon Brewers Festival? We have not just one, but two $50 obf packages to give away — which includes two mugs, 40 tokens and a program! What a deal!
Now, all you have to do to be a part of this drawing is to tap into your creative juices and write up a haiku poem about the Oregon Brewers Festival!
Remember, haikus don’t have to rhyme! That’s the good news. But they must adhere to a very specfic parameter:
There are only three lines in a haiku: the first has five syllables, the second has seven syllables and the third again has five syllables.
Now, to qualify for the $50 OBF package for two, the subject of your haiku must be _about _the OBF! Please only enter two haikus per person. If you submit more, I am going to choose my favorites which might not be yours!
You have until July 16 to get your obf haikus to me. A panel of judges including yours truly and Chris cCabb of the obf will select the semi-finalists and then you, dear listeners will get to log on to beergoddess.com starting on July 17 to vote for your favorites! The top two vote-getters will win the OBF packages that includes two mugs, 40 tokens and an official oregon brewers festival program — a $50 value!
